Old Black Cat

Buried The Old Black Cat

Heard horribly painful meowing outside of my house tonight...

Found my flashlight and went walking up and down the fogged-in, overly dark and woody block to see where it was coming from...

After much searching through the trees and weeds, I found our poor old homeless neighbourhood black cat moaning in pain...

His backside (legs, tail & butt) had been totally squished by a passing car, it was pretty gruesome.

Obviously, he had crawled his damaged body from the street to just under a big oak tree.

He knows me well since I've feed him for years and calmed down when he saw me...

Then breathing deeply, he just watched me while I watched the life pass out of him as I whispered soft words of love...

Thought it was important to find my young cat, Fuzzita, who has been playful yard friends with the ancient black cat, brought her over to him and she immediately realized that the old guy was gone...

I knew she was sad since she meowed ever so softly as she sniffed the old guy, as if it was her way of saying goodbye.

So I went and got my shovel and together we buried the homeless baby...

And together we thanked him for the love he had shared with us...

And together we questioned the meaning of life for a stray cat living in an urban world...

And together we softly prayed to his spirit floating up and away into the Monterey fog...
