The Big Rescue - Born FreeMarch 2002

In Jamaica at a hotel in "Ja" is a small artificial beach. The hotel is located in a natural enclosed reef and most guests sun at the pool deck and then go down a steep flight of steps directly into the Caribbean.
There is a very small man made stone enclosure on the little beach, that sea water seeps into and it is probably polluted. A fisherman had found a beautiful sea turtle that seemed to be injured. He brought It into the, much too small enclosure. It was being fed dead fish and the entire area had an unpleasant odor.

Our final holiday night in Jamaca; five people consisting of two American couples, a couple from Seattle and one Canadian female friend, took the law into their own hands.
Late in the evening, they took the pool net and a flash light, went down the stone steps to the man made stone enclosure. The young gentleman from Seattle climbed into the little enclosure, took the turtle out with the net and we set him free into the Caribbean. To see him swim happily away almost brought tears to our eyes. Next morning we were all singing "Born Free."

When we set the turtle loose the woman from Seattle was taking digital pictures like crazy. By the way, all of us were on our way home before the loss was discovered - We think!
