Sgt. Thomas Bones & Shadow

Companions to Susan & Family.

Sarge

"There is a story behind Sarge's name. He was an abandoned stray that took up residence at my neighbour's house. Their children called him 'Bones', because of his undernourished state. Their grandfather called him 'Tom', for obvious reasons. When I saw him I said with all those stripes (he's an orange and white tabby) he ought to be a Sargent. Hence, 'Sgt. Thomas Bones!' I'm happy to say that he adopted us exclusively three years ago. After a trip for shots and neutering, he has the rule of the kingdom (our house and the neighbourhood). He has turned out quite lovely, and we are fortunate he chose us as his humans. Sarge's favourite person is me. He sleeps with me, usually resides in whichever room I am in, and if I leave the room for any reason, feels it his duty to chaperone. As to his paper fetish, his exploits have included the children's homework, the daily news, and (unfortunately) the paid bills. Imagine explaining to a creditor that your cat ate the statement!" - Susan

Shadow

"Our Shadow is a grand dame. This aging queen (she'll be 11 this year) still holds court. She barely tolerates Sarge, as he is just a commoner. A great mouser, this cross between a calico and tabby still brings home snacks for her kittens (my two youngest children). She greets them when they come home from school with head bumps and purrs. My husband is wrapped around her paw, as she waits regally for her morning tidbit from his plate. If he is slow to eat, she reminds him to hurry with a well-placed swipe of her paw. According to her, his only reason for living is to please her, and good help can be so hard to find!" - Susan
