From the July/August 2001 Issue of Best Friends Magazine: "Perhaps I can solve the mystery of the photo of the cat walking in front of the German shepherds. My husband, Rolf, who served in the German Air Force during the 1980’s, says the photo was most likely taken at the German Shepherd Border Patrol School. Rolf had the opportunity to visit since he trained guard dogs at one time. In the very last test of obedience before a dog is officially declared a working guard dog, the trainers order them to stay and not move for any reason. They then release the cat, who parades in front of them, taunting every normal dog’s instincts to attack or chase the cat. If one of the dogs breaks rank or moves towards the cat, he is out of the program. Although dogs are not used anymore for border patrols, the schools still continue to use them for other police related work. Definitely a brave cat!" - Paula Angelo
