The 12-year-old ginger tomcat named Garfield somehow travelled from his home in Woodland Close, Blackburn, and strolled into a police station in the Midlands four and a half weeks later. His owner Terry Pickering, tried everything to find Garfield and even put adverts in the lost and found section of the Lancashire Telegraph. There were a number of phone calls saying that Garfield had been found in Accrington, Burnley and Rochdale. Then on Saturday (3rd May) morning Terry got a phone call to say his cat had been found - Garfield had walked into Sandwell Police Station, West Bromwich, a few miles outside Birmingham city centre. He said: "We had moved house from Queen's Road in Blackburn a few weeks after he went missing but we put the contact details of the new address on his collar." "He was always going out but he always found his way home." "On Saturday I had a call from a police station to say they had found the cat." "I thought it was in Blackburn and said I would come and pick it up straight away but the police officer said he was calling from the West Midlands." Terry then travelled down to Birmingham with his son to pick up Garfield. West Midlands police were able to identify Garfield's owner because of the contact details on the collar. Terry said: "I don't think he would have walked to Birmingham, it would have been along walk." "I suppose he has gone onto a vehicle and somehow ended up in at the police station." "He seemed alright, he had lost some weight but had managed to keep himself going for four weeks." "We brought him home after 8.30pm that evening and he has not been let out of the house." Under the advice of a vet Garfield will not be allowed out of the house for four weeks. Terry added: "We have another cat Bailey who is missing him a bit."
