Fort Collins, Colorado - The cause of a house fire in Fort Collins remained under investigation Tuesday.

The blaze was reported at 1:13 p.m., Monday, at 1313 Emigh Street in central Fort Collins.

Fire crews made an aggressive attack to stop the spread of the fire in the one-story, wood-frame residence. A sweep of the home turned up two cats in the smoke-filled basement.

The cats were removed from the residence and given oxygen through a special pet oxygen mask. The two cats were transported to the Colorado State University Veterinary School where one sadly died.

There was no one home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters were able to save all the contents of the garage and most of the personal contents inside the basement. The main level of the home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.
