Pet Cat Ripped To Pieces By Dog In Horrific Attack

By: Martin Stirling - Lanarkshire - East Kilbride News, UK

A Westwood woman has been left devastated after her beloved cat was ripped to pieces by a greyhound.

Joan Forbes, of Rockhampton Avenue, is still in a state of shock after her pet's horrific death last Monday (21st April).

The 18-year-old family cat, called Ally, was in her front garden when, from out of nowhere, a grey-coloured dog suddenly locked its jaws on his back, tossed him in the air and then picked him up and ran off.

Tragically, the following day, South Lanarkshire council workers found Ally's mauled body in New Plymouth.

Joan was left distraught by her pet's death and is now warning other cat owners to be on their guard.

She said: "I just can't believe this could have happened."

"Ally was right in front of the house in the garden when this dog just attacked him and carried him off."

"We had him for 18 years and he was loved by my children and now my grandchildren."

"Nine years ago he was knocked down and last year some thug kicked him but although he was badly injured on both occasions I nursed him back to health."

"Now to think he suffered such a frightening and painful death has left me inconsolable."

Joan continued: "It's disgusting that someone has just let this dog roam free."

"My 14-month-old granddaughter or 12-week-old grandson could have been in the garden at the time and witnessed their cat being attacked or the dog could even have attacked them."

"My granddaughter loved Ally and used to kiss him and give him some of her food and she keeps asking for her miaow, miaow."

"I'd like to warn people to look out for their cats and younger kids in case this dog attacks again."
