Ash Companion to Helen & Family. ![]() One day a noisy black cat appeared at our house as we came home, managing to get in the door before we could. We put her out, but every time the door was opened, she was in again. The next day enquiries led to our friends who live around the corner, and when they came to look at her they said that it was their cat Ash, who was being bullied by other cats and had been missing for six months. We had never met her, because as soon as anybody got near their house, she took fright and would disappear. They took Ash home but she kept returning so we all gave in and Ash has been with us ever since. That was 11 years ago and she is now a wonderful 17 year old lady. Ash still doesn't like other cats but is now better with strangers. She has grown into a real people loving cat as far as the family is concerned and loves nothing better than her home comforts, a comfy lap (but no shorts please) or lots of cuddles and attention. Ash has 'helped' both sons with revision for school exams and later assisted them with their university coursework! Curled up beside them as they studied, I am sure she took in every word! By now a highly educated lady, she frequently helps the man of the house when he is busy with paperwork or laptop. The birds have to choose their bathtime carefully as the bird bath provides her favourite drinking spot and a catflap will never be used if there is somebody in the house to open the door. We have been so lucky that Ash walked into our lives. She has given us a huge amount of love and friendship and very quickly settled in and became a large part of our lives. |
