Mikey

I saw Mikey had a sore eye that he could not open and that was weeping, one evening. I bathed it until the next evening and took him to the vet as it was no better. She put some dye in and we could see he had a very bad scratch on his lens. The scratch was actually very deep. But with lots of TLC from the vet and myself, he recovered and his eye seems ok.

One evening while sat watching tv in the lounge. I suddenly saw a shape pass by the window. thinking it was a bird we looked out of the window, to see one of the cats sat under the car. I knew the cats were locked inside so presumed he had fallen out of an open window.

For some unknown reason, our animals decide to do the daftest things after the vets surgeries have closed!

I took Blake straight round to the vet in our village. She examined him and said that even though he was limping, she was sure that he just had a sore back. He had a pain killing injection and I got some tablets to give him in the morning if he was no better.

As soon as we got home he jumped onto the floor a bit gingerly and came to me for a huge fuss. The next morning he was fine. But a few days later I was sat on the computer in the conservatory, when I heard a sliding noise above me. Looking up again, I saw a black shape sliding down the roof. I realised it was a cat straight away and opened the door to find... Mikey this time, sat on the drive looking very bemused. He was okay, just a bit shook up and frightened so flew into his bed for the rest of the evening.

I am sure they are out to frighten me as much as they can!

Over the last few months, both of them have matured a lot and are changed characters. Now Blake is the boss and my son calls him Garfield because of the size he is growing to.

A bit of advice for anyone who has trouble giving wormer etc to their cats. Mine are lethal (said the vet), so I developed a way of giving them tablets. Crush them up very finely and mix with a bit of butter. Then... wipe it on their paws! If your cats are as clean as mine it must be the least stressful way to give a cat medicine.

Also, in this day and age, when there are people about who do not share our love of felines. I have another bit of advice. If your cat is purely a house cat because of where you live or for some other reason. Build a cat pen as I did. They have a cat flap in the conservatory which leads to a tunnel, which in turn goes into the pen. This enables me to leave them in their own surroundings when I go away. Someone does come to feed and water them. They are very happy and when I am at work, I just leave the cat pen door open and they have the run of the garden also, but if it rains they can go in a box in the pen or come back inside the conservatory.
